Our Internship
We accept intern applications in the fall for the spring internship. Please check back in the fall.
The Child Life department at Tucson Medical Center provides direct patient care to 45 inpatient pediatric and pediatric intensive care beds and several outpatient areas that serve pediatric patients.
Our internship offers 600 hours of clinical experience (40 hours per week for 15 weeks) during the spring semester only. We are only able to accommodate one intern per semester.
Interns will complete four rotations in the following areas:
- Surgery
- General Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care
- Radiology
- Emergency Department
Requirements for internship applicants
To be considered for the internship, the following criteria must be met:
- Senior college level student, graduate student or a non-affiliated applicant in pursuit of a career as a child life specialist.
- “Passed” status on the ACLP Eligibility Assessment for 10 academic courses. Class taught by a child life specialist must be completed before internship start date.
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- 100 hours of volunteer experience with children, under the supervision of a child life specialist, in a hospital.
