Boost Your Booty!
Seat belts are designed to fit adult bodies and don’t hold children securely. However, children who use a booster seat reduce their chance of a crash-related injury by 45 percent. That's because the booster does exactly what its name suggests: It boosts your child high enough for your vehicle's lap and shoulder belts to restrain them safely.Without a booster seat in the event of a crash, an adult seat belt can cause injury rather than prevent it. If the lap belt rests on your child's tummy (which it's likely to do without a booster), they could suffer stomach, liver, or spleen damage in a crash. And if the shoulder belt rests against their neck rather than their chest, they may try to move it under their arm (where it could crack their ribs and damage internal organs) or behind their back (where it offers no protection at all against head, neck, and spinal injuries).Arizona state laws states that children must be in an appropriate car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches. Booster seats help protect your child until they are big enough for the seat belt to do it alone. It is safest to keep children in a booster seat until they reach 4 feet 9 inches as that is when the seat belt will cross the strongest parts of their body (shoulder and hip bones). Most children do not reach 4 feet 9 inches until they are between 10 and 12 years old.Free backless booster seats for older children
